be holy.

i love that the bible says to be holy.

"But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written, 'Be holy, because I am holy'." 1 Peter 1:15-16

as if that were something i could achieve. but it is something i can strive for.

i got started on this whole be holy thing when i was going through James and there was a verse in the message about being holy and not blowing smoke.

it seems like such an easy answer. struggling with something? just be holy. oh ok. thanks. that helps a lot.

how does one "be holy"? so i was looking up the defintion of holy to try to begin to understand how to become holy. the one i liked the best was this: dedicated or devoted to the service of God, the church, or religion. well i like the first part. i feel as though i am dedicated and devoted to the service of God. but i don't feel holy. i wonder if anyone ever feels holy? i mean really... i'm pretty sure if someone comes out and says, hey i'm holy that they aren't.

so to me i think being holy means to strive to be christ like. in everything i do. ouch. not the easiest task i've ever set out to accomplish. deep down i want it. but i don't always strive for it. my selfishness gets in the way, my flesh screams out to be satisfied. in the heat of an argument i get angry, i blow smoke. in a second i spit out venom that was never meant to be spit out. but theres forgiveness and grace. thank God. because without that i would be lost.

i read in a book today that being a christian you have more growing and learning days than you do great, fantastic days. i would agree with that. i'm constantly growing or learning or both. and sometimes it is great but sometimes its just hard.

so my question for you is, are you striving to be holy? and what does that look like for you?
