headed to the park

i love going to the park. and not one in particular. i generally enjoy most parks.

i have found a lovely little park near my work so on lunch breaks, i tend to go there and enjoy the silence that it brings. slip on my ipod and sunglasses and im invisible to the world. or so i thought. ha.

im sitting at my regular table, enjoying the packed lunch i made and reading my bible. really enjoying what im reading. and lost in my own little world. in walks old man. and i never did catch his name. he was probably in his late 70's or early 80's. im never good with guessing age. he walks by me at first and says something but i can't hear him because my ipod is in and its rather loud. so i turn it down and look at him and asked him to repeat what he said.

he said something to the effect of a beauty enjoying the beautiful scenery. we talked about our mutual love for the park. he then went on to tell me a story about how he got a job. which can i just say i love how God works. at this point in my day, i was frustrated with job searches and not knowing where to go or what to do. he went on to tell me how one woman with small 5 words changed the course of his life. he didn't know what he was going to do with his life and couldn't find work. this woman told him about the jobs are in la. or something to that effect. well he picked up his stuff and moved to LA and started a life changing career, that moved him to NY and then down to Texas. It was pretty neat to hear his story.

then he went on to say that he was a poet and wrote gospel songs. and did i want to hear any of them? i didn't know how to respond b/c i really didn't want to hear them but i didn't want to be rude either. i only had a few precious minutes before i had to go back to work. i had a decision to make. Give this grandpa type man a few minutes of my day or be selfish.

i preceeded to listen to 2 poems of his and an attempted gospel song. but time was running out and i did in fact need to get back to work. but i walked away from that chance encounter with a smile on my face. not because i enjoyed the poetry being recited to me (i'm SO not a poetry kinda girl) or did i enjoy the attempted gospel song but because for a short few minutes, it wasn't about me.
