breaking the news

breaking news isn't always easy. even if it's good, exciting news for you, it can be hard news for the receving end. the news brings change. change that is good. change that is needed. but change none the less.

and the 2 people on the recieving end responded in vastly different ways. one, inquistive, wanting to know every detail. wanting to know answers to questions that i don't have answers to yet. she's the planner. planning dinners, phone calls, family events. i asked her to slow down. let time work out the details.

the other, silent, not acknowledging any of the information given. tears form in his eyes and the slow realization hits him that his baby girl is no longer a baby girl. she's grown up and moving out. he can't look at her in the eye, he can't talk about what it means. he said he couldn't prepare for this kind of news. he didn't think it would happen so fast.

then there's the giver of the information. she too, knowing that change is in the air and not really knowing what it is going to turn out like. not wanting to disappoint but knowing its time to stand up and make her own changes. she's wanted the change for so long but now that it is in front of her, she has a swell of emotion that she didn't quite expect. but she's ready.

change is good.
